I was out all day today and had no time for breakfast, lunch etc., only had 1 coffee, water and 1 muesli bar.
.
When I was waiting at the streetcar stop in the early evening, it turned out that the streetcar was constantly changing its departure times due to a fire department operation; so I ended up waiting at the stop for 40 minutes – the queue of people also waiting for the streetcar kept growing. As I had a heavy load to carry, I wanted to keep waiting.
Suddenly, a middle-aged woman with very soft, open features stood next to me. Judging by her clothes, she was a well-groomed, simple, unobtrusive woman with light-colored hair simply tied back. She started a conversation with me about the wait and suddenly said. “I’ve just been to the Hofpfisterei and bought a few slices of bread. Can I offer you 1 slice of bread?”
I was so surprised by the offer that I declined with thanks and said I wasn’t hungry. But the woman persisted and said that bread was for what if not for sharing. She made such a lovely impression that I gratefully accepted the slice of bread from her. We stood there waiting at the bus stop and both ate a slice of bread.
She said: “This is wholemeal bread. Isn’t it delicious?” I had to agree with her. I chewed the slice of bread very carefully and thought, when you haven’t eaten anything all day, you realize how delicious a dry slice of bread can taste. When I had finished eating, the woman waved to me again with a smile and said goodbye as suddenly as she had appeared with the words:
“Take care and have a safe journey home”
Then she walked away quickly, leaving me very thoughtful.
